TREEMAP



How to make a treemap (RAWGraphs 1.0)
  • Orchestra data was copied and pasted into RAWGraph
  • Treemap layout was chosen
  • Orchestra and Group were dragged and dropped into 'Hierarchy'
  • Number was dragged and dropped to 'Size'
  • Group was dragged and dropped to 'Color'
  • Group and Number were dragged and dropped to 'Label'
  • Number was set to 'Sum' in 'Label' and 'Size'
  • Width was changed to 1200 to allow labels to be viewed
  • Five categorical colors were generated using Colorogical and applied to the Treemap

AREA BUMPCHART



Example of a bumpchart using Ariel Saffer's Alien Species First Records
  • Copy alien species data and paste into RAWGraph
  • Bumpchart layout was chosen
  • Year was dragged and dropped into 'X-axis'
  • NewTotal was dragged and dropped into 'Size'
  • Continent was dragged and dropped into 'Streams'
  • Year variable was changed to Date(YYYY) data type
  • Seven color ramp was generated using iwanthue and applied to the bumpchart
  • Size settings and legend were adjusted for clear viewing

HEXAGONAL BINNING



A Hexagonal Binning map was generated using bigfoot sighting data

This data was visualized to show locations of high density and low denisty bigfoot sightings. It was suprising to see areas in central Florida, northern Ohio, southeastern California all had higher densities of bigfoot sightings. It didn't suprise me to see the highest density in Washington State.

  • Hexagonal binning layout was chosen
  • Longitude was dragged and dropped to 'X-axis'
  • Latitude was dragged and dropped to 'Y-axis'
  • Legend was generated and bin radious was adjusted

ALLUVIAL DIAGRAM



An Alluvial Diagram was generated using the class visualization data

This data was visualized to show correlations and proportions between our classmates places of birth, whether they are a cat or dog lover, and their favorite number. This data shows the largest group of classmates as dog people, but no real relationship between favorite number and what animal they like best.

  • Copy and paste class visualization data into RAWGraph
  • Birthplace and Dog or Cat lover were dragged and dropped to 'Steps'
  • Favorite number was dragged and dropped to 'Size'
  • Fourteen colors were generated using ilovehue and applied
  • Opacity was adjusted
  • Width was adjusted
